The monsoon season brings not only relief from the scorching heat but also a surge of seasonal illnesses. As medical officers working in rural and semi-urban areas, we often encounter a spectrum of monsoon-related conditions, ranging from simple colds to complex gastric and dermatological issues. This article summarizes recent clinical trends observed during monsoon, probable diagnoses, and homeopathic remedies most frequently indicated. 🦠 1. Respiratory Complaints in Monsoon Common Cold with watery discharge, fever, and breathing difficulty during cough. Recurrent Sneezing & Nostril Itching (often allergic rhinitis). Cough with spells (3–4 coughs in a short interval) – seen in children and teens, often linked to postnasal drip or mild pharyngitis. Throat pain, burning, and painful swallowing – acute pharyngitis or tonsillitis, not always relieved by antipyretics. Probable Causes: Viral upper respiratory infections, allergic rhinitis, and post-viral throat irritation. Indicated Medicines: Belladonna, Bryonia, Rhus tox, Hepar sulph, Kali bichromicum, Spongia, Phosphorus, Pulsatilla. 🧬 2. Gastrointestinal & Hepatobiliary Issues Altered food intake during festivals (Rakshabandhan sweets, fried food) → constipation, eructations, diarrhea. Abdominal pain with mesenteric lymphadenopathy in children. Gallbladder wall edema in hepatitis B–positive patients with mild hepatomegaly. Chronic vomiting after meals (21-year-old female, large vomit followed by small ones) → likely chronic gastritis or pyloric spasm. Probable Causes: Infectious gastroenteritis, food poisoning, chronic gastritis, hepatobiliary disease. Hematological Findings Low platelets (40,000–1.25 lakh) with altered taste and weakness. Associated with viral fevers and dengue-like illnesses. Some cases show menorrhagia (excessive bleeding), especially in adolescent girls. Probable Causes: Post-viral thrombocytopenia, dengue, nutritional deficiencies. Indicated Medicines: Carica papaya Q, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Phosphorus, China, Hamamelis, Trillium pendulum. Natural Platelet Boosters: Papaya leaf extract, kiwi, beetroot, pomegranate, pumpkin seeds. 🧑⚕️ 4. Dermatological Disorders Vesicular eruptions with clear watery discharge → spread with itching, likely eczema/impetigo. Pityriasis versicolor – starts on the neck, later involves face; often linked with reduced sweating. Urticaria cases rising in teens and young adults. Excessive hair loss after bathing, especially from roots. Filarial hydrocele cases also noted. Indicated Medicines: For vesicular eruptions → Rhus tox, Graphites, Sulphur, Mezereum.
