Biking On Highway-Saftey Tips

By dr rakesh kumar   Posted at  10:52 AM   Nature Wallpaper 1 comment

On last weekend, I made a 120 km journey on my bike from Lucknow to a village in Raebareli near Pershadepur to attend a marriage.Due to some reasons I preferred to go there on my Hero Honda CD Delux 100 CC bike though it was not a good choice as 100 cc bikes are not designed to run very fast. People need to run fast on highway to reach destination timely; however, I never face any problem on this bike, but only uneasiness and fear when bike takes a high speed.

During this journey, I witnessed two accidents, which cause me to blog about this.

While driving on highway, I do follow these things strictly.

1. Never drive after drinking.
2. Never drive close helmets (i.e. with front glasses)
3. Never drive without enough money.
4. Try to be coupled for long journey.
5. During crowded area always be slow as anything man, animal, or vehicle can came across you. Be extra careful in these areas. These areas are prone to give you minor accident, but can make your journey very unpleasant.
6. Estimate your journey time. You should think about 40km/hour and aid extra one hour on every 120 km.
7. Mobile should be charged both with battery and talk time.
8. If possible should have a note telling contact number of best person (easily reachable)to contact in case of any accident.
9. Bikes without back mirror are not good for long journey. On highway one should keep eye on vehicles following. Sometimes there may be some vehicle trying to overtake each other, seeing this timely and going slow down is very good. In India mostly all highways are single so keeping eye on back mirror is very crucial especially if you see one or more heavy vehicles coming from front. Sometimes vehicles coming from front over take each other and you have to go slow down, but if you did not take a look on back mirror may cause you in trouble. So it is best to see on back mirror when heavy vehicles are coming from front and same from back. Going slow down to pass heavy vehicle behind you is best option and do not try to keep ahead of it.

10. High speed precautions. Very often one finds very clear road without any vehicle on it may cause you to speed up your bike, but it is most dangerous and most of accident do occur in this situation. There may be some minor problems on road which you cannot see such as minor breakage on road, minor wear and tear, and concrete, which may cause your bike's balance off. Animals also tries to cross road when there is no heavy vehicles on road and you may colloid them as they cross very suddenly. If you wants to go high speed then it is good option to follow any high speed car and make a fair distance to it. This car/vehicle would alarm you of any disturbance.

11. Go slow down whenever you see highway alert signs.

12. Should take rest whenever you feel exhausted or find a great location and can take some photos such as I have taken with my K660i Sony Ericson Phone.

13. Try to leave highway before sunset as heavy lights of heavy vehicles makes bike riding rather difficult on highway.

Lastly, enjoy such journey by taking it as challenge to reach safely and timely and you can do it by making most alert.

  1. Insightful one. First time I see the same importance of human health and animal health. I also agree up to some extent as we can't take care of all animals. In my point of view we can do it for our pets. Am I right? Consider your pets as your family member and take care of them as your own child. There are several animal health care hospitals available in our country. We have to take suggestion and tips regarding their care, health and food etc.
