Recently we made an amazing tour to Surkhet Nepal to attend a marriage. We made this tour from Lucknow though most of the tour members stared it from Ghaziabad. As we had heard this journey would consist of 186 km plane road and around 86km hill road, we tried to start journey early, but it was 8:45 am when we left Gomti Nagar. Our Santro car was rather overloaded. One should avoid overloaded driving as much as possible. It was rather rainy morning and overall driving conditions were poor so we reach Rupadeah at 2 PM.

{This Road (Jarwal Road/Station) was so good in comparison to what we were just traveled caused me to take a photo of this road though this road is not too long and overall road from Lucknow to Nepalgunj is not good.} |
|
{Jarwal Road also had a railway station, which is the nearest Railway station to Nepalgunj Nepal border. A passenger train starts from Lucknow in Early morning and arrives Jarwar Road around 8:30 a.m. From Jarwal Road (station) Nepalgunj is about 100 km to travel via on Road} |
Crossing The Border: India-Nepal border is open to both sides, but people should have identity cards while traveling both sides. If you are going Nepal by any personal vehicle then you have to do following things.
1. First one will face Indian police post who will make entry of your vehicle number, driver name and license, and how many people are crossing via this vehicle. It is free of charge though they may ask some money, but it is not needed at all.
2. One can cross border and about 400 meter there is Nepal Custom Office who will make entry and give you some documents, which you have to carry throughout the Nepal Journey. For motorcycle charges are around 70 rupees per day and for car it is around 275 rupees per day.
3. Then one should go ahead about 3 km ahead where traffic office will provide you temporary car/motorcycle number to be used in Nepal. They will charge around 70 rupees.
4. Then one should go ahead about 1.5 km and get traffic certificate from a Yatayat. They will charge according to where you want to go.
So fulfilling formalities is time taking because all documents are not completed at one place and also they will not stop you to fulfill these formalities, but if you missed any of them may be disturbed by traffic police and army here and there in Nepal so It would be best to ask about all formalities and documents at border.
We lost about 100 minutes in fulfilling these formalities and we were tense as we were slow and have to journey on hills so we were trying to complete the journey before sunset and so I was unable to take photos as I was mainly fulfilling all formalities.

{Nice Taxi From Nepalgunj to Surkhet via Kohlapur. Fare around 200-300 rupees though not sure as just asked a local person.} |
We reached Kolhapur chowk around 4:10 from where one road was going to Banbasa, One Surkhet, One to Kathmandu, and last one was coming from Nepalganj.
Then after traveling about 10 Km Badria Prani Udyan arrived where we have to make an entery and get a paper for further travel. Free of charge.
We were little terrified as the hills were quite high than what we were expecting and road seemed too much zigzag thought it was not so. We were also checked at two army camps of Badaria National Park to make entry there. We were not fully prepared for the trip as our water was finished as well as snacks and our mobiles were inactive and on hills we were unable to find any PCO and ultimately got PCO in Chinchoo (main residential area in hill area before Surkhet)

Lastly, we reached our venue around 7 pm. We were exhausted, but warm welcome and marriage environment made us energetic and we talked until late night. The next morning I wake up early and go for hill climbing. I go for hill climbing many times and enjoyed very much.
